Canadian Kids With Great Ideas! |
| These kids are just like you. They're all Canadian. They have families and schoolwork. Some have chores; some have brothers or sisters who bug them! They have problems like everybody else. BUT something about them is a bit different - all of them had a good idea and decided to do something about it while they were still kids - Proud Canadian Kids indeed! |

Helping Animals Here are two sisters from Newfoundland who heard that horses in Alberta were in danger of being killed because their owners could no longer afford to feed them. See what they did to help! http://www.freewebs.com/freealbertahorses/ From
Howick Central Public School Some caring kids at Howick Central Public School in the Avon Maitland District School Board in Ontario, have a passion for animals and wanted to help them, so in the past couple of years they devised creative ways to raise money. At their school, on their own initiative, they sold tickets for draws, set up donation boxes, and accepted donations from the community and staff. In particular:
The grade 4/5
teacher, Cindy Visser, describes them as a 'great group of kids' and that
Howick Central Public School is proud to have them as students. Way
to go, Erin, Kloe, David and Amanda! You are truly Proud Canadian
Kids! This boy wanted to help the kids in New York City who lost loved ones in the September 11th, 2001 disaster. He began to collect loonies (if you're a Canadian kid, you'll know what those are!) from his classmates and kids all across Canada to send to children in the United States he had never even met! Read about him at http://www.geocities.com/looniesforliberty/ Students
Raise Money for Local Hospital Some Grade 5 students at Meadowview Public School in Navan, Ontario, wanted to raise money to help Ottawa Children's Hospital (CHEO). All on their own, this enterprising group decided to make necklaces and bracelets from wool and embroidery cotton which they offered for sale to Meadowview's students, teachers and parents. At the school's Family Fun Night, they set up a booth, complete with hand-made signs, to let everyone know about their plan. As a result, they managed to raise $83.11 for CHEO. We applaud Michelle, Ali, Ruthann, Emily, Carolyn, Melanie, Angie and Cara from Grade 5E! Their creativity and willingness to help others is commendable - another example of Canadian kids helping kids! Kids
Can Free the Children "Craig
Kielburger
first became a spokesperson for children's rights when he was 12 years
old. Searching for the comics in the local paper, a front-page article
caught his attention. He read about a young boy from Pakistan who was
sold into bondage as a carpet weaver, escaped and was murdered for
speaking out against child labour. Craig gathered a group of friends and
founded the organization (Kids Can) Free the Children." http://www.freethechildren.org/ The
Youngest Proud Canadians in Canada! At the school where I teach, Romeo Public School, a JK to Grade 6 facility in Stratford, Ontario, our students participate in the Proud Canadian Kids programme I created. They learn key facts about Canada, earn certificates for scoring perfectly on quizzes, have a chance to win prizes, and best of all, they have fun. Most of our students consistently score 100% accuracy! They are very excited and proud to be Canadian! Surely the Youngest Proud Canadians in Canada! Environmental

Well Foundation: Clean Water for Africa's Children Ryan Hreljac, founder of Ryan's Well Foundation, is from Ontario. He has been raising funds for projects to build wells that deliver safe drinking water in developing countries since the age of six. "In a short time his little effort has blossomed into over a half a million dollars to build wells for people in Africa. He has saved lives!!! And you can too". Mikayla is only seven years old, yet she already has a website! She has found a way to begin to save up money for her future education. She is what's called an 'entrepreneur', which means someone who has started a business.
